Why do you want to work as a nanny?
I worked with IBM when my first child was born and I couldn't stand the long hours I was away; so I started an in-home childcare service while raising my own children. I was fortunate to help raise 3 and 4 siblings in 4 different families for a total of 9 years. The children I cared for were 6 weeks to 6 years of age. I am from a large family where my mother also took care of other children in our home so it came very natural to me. I had a system that seemed to work well with the children. After breakfast we had playtime, followed by reading time and lunch and rest or quiet time. I loved taking the children outside as much as possible during the day. I always encouraged the parents to drop in unexpectedly during the day just to observe their children.
I worked the past 15 years with the Madison Public School system in Madison, Ct, where I was aa classroom para, special needs para and library para professional. I also worked the last 3 years with the Madison before/after school program where we interacted, feed and monitored kids who had to be dropped off up to 2 hours before school started and stay as late as 6:00 in the evenings.
