Why do you want to work as a nanny?

I have worked with children for many years, making my experience a big benefit. I've been a nanny, babysitter, elementary school instructional assistant, summer camp counselor, gymnastics instructor, gym teacher, worked in a popular children's bookstore, etc. I often worked 2 or more jobs at once, leading to my long work history. I did not flit from job to job; I usually worked quite a few years at each job. I am conscientious and dependable. I'm mature and make good decisions with the children's best interests at heart. I'm also resourceful, creative, artistic, & very hands-on. If the kids want me to play 4- square or ping pong with them, I will! I was a nanny for a boy and a girl, 5 girls, a nanny for 1 girl, & a summer babysitter for 2 boys. I care for school age children, since that is the age group I'm very interested in working with. I love creative writing and drawing. I draw coloring pictures for children. My pictures have been colored by hundreds of Indiana schoolchildren! My dream is to be a children's book author and illustrator. My hobbies also include jewelry making, reading, especially children's literature and Celtic history, listening to Celtic music, playing with or caring for pets, walking & communing with nature. These activities often come out in my work with children: I may encourage them to go on walks, can help them with drawing, crafts,and homework, help model good care habits for pets, introduce them to new kinds of music, etc.

Attitude and work ethic

My attitude at work is - I love to work with children! When I'm with them, I feel happy, fulfilled, and like I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm detail oriented, so that helps in following the parents' instructions on anything from homework help, to housework, to directions to the children's school, etc. I like the parents to be able to feel they can trust and rely on me. I also want the children to feel the same way. Consistency is important to me. I work hard and like to know if I'm doing my job to the parents' satisfaction or not. This is where good communication comes in. Regular talks with the parents, to make sure all needs are being met as well as if I'm performing to their satisfaction, is important. Respect and kindness go a long way in addressing problems and trying to solve them together. I'm also very safety-oriented.
