Why do you want to work as a nanny?

Interview Q & A Tell us what techniques you use while caring for a child. For example, do you follow any specific child-care styles? I am open to all child-care perspectives. Putting all techniques and approaches a side, i have found that children need more than anything structure, encouragement and direction (which all the child development research supports), they need to understand the merits of limits, freedom, respect and cooperation. Children who do not comprehend the importance of self-control and self-understanding are very difficult to work with and usually do not fully benefit from the lessons of life, either in or outside of the classroom. If i had to describe my child-care style, i would have to say it's flexible but authoritative, i establish clear limits and expectations allowing children more freedom when demonstrating to be self-disciplined. Punishment usually consists of timeouts from activities or denied access to a favorite toy or activity. Rewards usually consist of time spent pursuing the child's most favorite activity or obtaining a new book or toy of interest. Tell us what a typical day would be like if you were caring for a child. What are your favorite activities to do with children? Explain why you have chosen a nanny career? A typical day ... starts with a well balanced breakfast followed by cleanup and getting dressed for the days activities: trips to the zoo, nature museum, playground, beach, run errands together... then we head back home for lunch and naptime, during nap hour(s) - i do the laundry and light house cleaning, then playtime: arts & crafts, sing & dance, playdate and put away the toys, straighten up the kitchen and playareas. I enjoy finding new interesting activities, books and toys for the children- as well as teach the children how to express themselves through dance, music, art and social activities. In sum, I enjoy being a part of the child's learning process, seeing that i played a positive part in their growth in being a creative, intelligent and conscientious person. What should we know about you? Be sure to include where you are from and any hobbies you have. I'm from Przemysl, Poland - one of the oldest towns in the country... located near the russian and czech boarder http://www.przemysl.pl - Both of my parents were lawyers and i had a wonderful nanny to take care of me. My parents pushed me through law school, but my interests in law did not sustain me. After graduating, i traveled Europe and a year later found myself married with a child in the States. My daughter, who recently graduated from college with a major she chose, made me realize how much i enjoyed raising children. In my spare time i enjoy, what my husband and i call "Treasure Hunting" aka exploring interesting neighborhoods and towns in pursuit of our antique shopping adventures. When at home, i enjoy reading, cooking and decorating our recently purchased 1893 greystone. Describe your ideal employer. down-to-earth considerate understanding reasonable realistic How would others describe you? same as above plus: neat organized punctual reliable honest Childcare Experience: P Family - girl ( 1 yr to 3 1/2 yrs ) B Family - girl ( 9 mths to 6 yrs old ) & boy ( newborn to 4 yrs ) S Family - girl ( 3 yrs to 5 yrs ) & son ( 15 mths to 3 yrs ) S Family - girl ( 4 mths to 6 1/2 yrs ) & son ( newborn to 5 yrs ) D Family - girl (14 mnths to 3 yrs ) girl ( newborn to 16 mths ) Note: Please feel free to send an e-mail or call with any additional questions you may have.
